The Olympic High-Performance Unit encompasses five key areas: sports science, medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, and nutritional science. Its collaboration with the Department of Sports Science and Kinesiology at the University of Salzburg is particularly noteworthy, as the University benefits greatly from this partnership:
The Department of Sports Science and Kinesiology at the University of Salzburg provides solid research results. Data analysis and continuous research in sports science directly benefit athletes," noted Barbara Romauer, Vice-Rector for Finance, University of Salzburg.
Christian Schiefermüller, sporting director at the centre, highlighted that the Olympic Centre label not only grants the right to use this prestigious name, but also ensures comprehensive support from the ÖOC, including funding for scientific projects.
Top athletes and their success stories
The centre hosted 15 athletes from the Jamaican track and field team last year, including five-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, as they prepared for the Paris Olympics.
Renowned athletes from various summer, winter, and Paralympic disciplines train here, including Tina Pesendorfer, Conny Wibmer, and Mirjam Puchner, who recently won a silver medal at the World Championships. Vincent Kriechmayr utilised the rehabilitation facilities extensively after his knee injury. Mario Seidl is currently making a strong comeback to the top of the world rankings", says the managing director of the Centre, Sabrina Rohrmoser.
In the coming years, the Olympic Centre will continue to focus on promoting Austrian elite athletes while also supporting mass sports. Both elite and recreational athletes will benefit from the excellent conditions at the facilities in Salzburg.
