This Blended Intensive Programme is based on the organisation of an international conference about the main topic of the CIVIS Hub "Cities, territories and mobilities": Making visible the invisibles in Cities and Territories, hosted at the Université libre de Bruxelles, on 27-29 September 2023. This conference will gather academics, students, and practitioners from CIVIS partners, their territories and the international academic community.
This project is based on educational and research objectives:
- 2 days of on-site visits for MA and PhD Students (visit of various projects about the main topic of the conference) in order to improve the empirical knowledge of students.
- 3 days of international conference with 3 main types of activities:
- Poster session for MA & PhD Students
- Scientific panels based on open panels and on panels based on the topics of the different BIPs already validated by our Hub (Circular economy in cities and territories, Fluxes in cities, Giving voice to children, Migrants and refugees for sustainable cities, Participatory tools for urban nature planning and management, Co-creating urban futures - citizen participation in local governance)
- Plenary session with EU and Brussels Public Officials or practitioners
Main topics addressed
The conference is interdisciplinary, with a focus on the following themes:
- urban economy,
- urban infrastructures
- citizen participation
- fragilised publics
- migration, and refugees
Learning outcomes
Following this course, students will be able to:
- learn various theoretical and methodological tools about the main topic of the conference: making visible the invisibles (issues, publics, technics) in Cities and Territories
- experience on-site visits
- experience a first scientific speech (poster or/end scientific presentation during panel).

Physical mobility
The physical mobility part will be running from 25-29 September 2023.
The physical part includes on-site visits and the participation to an international conference.
- Day 1: On-site visits – How to make various publics visible in policy and research processes?
- Day 2: On-site visits – How to make technical issues visible for different publics?
- Day 3-5: International conference (poster session, scientific panels & plenary session).
Virtual part
The virtual part will be running from 24 April - 5 May 2023.
Two 2-hours sessions online to prepare MA and PhD students to participate to the scientific activities (Scientific posters and panels).
The virtual part is composed of 2 online sessions that will prepare selected students to participate to the scientific activities (scientific posters and panels). Each session will last 2 hours and will address the following topics:
- How to do a great scientific poster?
- How to make a scientific speech?

Requirements
This course is open to Master and PhD students at CIVIS member universities enrolled in the following fields of study or related: Urban economy, Social Sciences and Humanities, Environmental Sciences, Urbanism and Geography, Environment and Agriculture, Art, Design and Media, Law, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Business and Management, Engineering and Technology.
A B2 level of English is required.

To be eligible for your selected CIVIS programme, you must be a fully enrolled student at your CIVIS home university at the time you will be undertaking the programme. Click here to learn more about the eligibility criteria.
Application process
Interested students should apply by filling in the online application form by 8 March 2023.
Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Applicants should have a research project/outcome they can communicate about. Proposals should be limited to 500 words and highlight theoretical foundations, methodological approaches, main objectives, and preliminary results.
- Level of English
Assessment
MA and PhD Students will have to participate to all activities (virtual and physical) and present a poster and/or a scientific speech during a panel. If they participate to all activities, they will get the 6 ECTS.
Blended Intensive Programme
