The course aims to gather together students in several groups, on the base of the topic they have to develop, preparing a final dissertation that they will discuss with all the other students and have to defend from their possible critics.

Physical mobility

The physical mobility part will be running from 3 to 7 June 2024 in Rome.

The focus of the seminar is the legal comparison of several European legal systems with regard to the main topic "Europe and the Rule of Law".  Initially, students should write essays on the sub-topics, which represents the current legal situation in the country of origin. In a second step, the students should compare their elaborations on the legal situation working out similarities and differences, which are then presented in a common presentation. In addition, there are introductory lectures by the lecturers, who are also intended to support the students in their elaborations.

Virtual part

The virtual part will be running from 5 February to 31 May 2024 .

The virtual part of the course is composed of online lectures (introduction to the legal systems of the participating countries), which iclude also preparation of the subjects in groups.

Requirements

This course is open to Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students at CIVIS member universities enrolled in the following fields of study: Law, or any other fields related.

Students from CIVIS’ strategic partner universities in Africa cannot apply for participation in this course.

Application process

Interested students should apply by filling in the online application form by 7 November 2023. 

Students will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Level of english (according to CEFR)

Knowledge of EU law and national legal system combined with a good knowledge of legal English is also desirable.

Assessment

In order to receive the certificate of attendance and the 3 ECTS credits related to this course, students will be evaluated taking into consideration of:

  • The participation
  • The efforts to reach a common dissertation 
  • The final outcome presented to the stage
