Participative and inclusive, CIVIS is an ambitious alliance that works to ensure long-term sustainability. With a member university and a legal entity in Brussels, CIVIS stimulates multilevel cooperation and close ties with European Union institutions.
A participative and inclusive governance structure
CIVIS is an ambitious and far-reaching initiative. To ensure its long-term sustainability, we have developed a strong, integrated and democratic governance model. Our alliance strives to be inclusive, participatory and open to all key stakeholders including students, university staff, local authorities, businesses, and members of the civil society.
Our Board of Rectors and Steering Committee can count on an impressive range of consultative bodies to prepare or evaluate proposals, but also to suggest lines of action or strategies. They include a Student Council, an Education Council, a Research Council, a Participative Council, a Partner Council, and numerous Expert Groups.

A solid management structure
The Management Committe is the management body of CIVIS Alliance. Strong representation at the local level through Institutional Coordinators and crosscutting management delivered by the Coordination Office facilitate the implementation of the ambitious governance agenda of the Alliance. Five thematic units —Education, Mobility, Digital Campus, Communications and Research plus three officers dedicated to Quality, Global Partnerships and Innovative Pedagogies work closely with academics and researchers to deliver impactful results.
With a representation office in Brussels
CIVIS is significantly present in the capital of Europe. It is one of only two alliances with a member university in Brussels, which also hosts the head of the communication unit, the seat of its legal entity (CIVIS Association).
