This CIVIS course explores the consequences of the pandemic in our life, along different lines: climate, environment, international cooperation, international trade and psychology. It aims to provide a holistic approach to how it has changed our life and our way to socially interact.
Main topics addressed
This CIVIS course will address the following main topics:
- The evolution of the climate international agreements and the effects of environmental policy.
- The effect of the pandemic on international trade
- Measuring the role of socioeconomic factors on the spread and intensity of Covid
- The Pandemic, public policies and behavioural adjustment
- Society against covid-19: challenges for the socio-genetic point of view of social representations
Learning outcomes
Students will learn some notions of economics, statistics and psychology through the thematic of the pandemic.

The course will consist of 2 days of lectures, and practical sessions where students present their work on a list of proposed topics.
The course is organised following a hybrid format (both face-to-face and online options running at the same time) for both students and instructors, but presence is preferred whenever possible. The course will be held in Marseille, France, depending on the Covid-related restrictions that will be in force in France at that moment. Selected students (except for students from the Aix Marseille University) will be supported by a mobility grant for their travel and stay in France.
Requirements
This blended mobility course is open to Bachelor's, Master and PhD students at the CIVIS member universities enrolled or interested in the following field of study: economics, statistics and psychology. A minimum of 90 credits is necessary in order to apply.
A B2 level of English is required.
Application process
Interested students should send a CV and a short motivation letter to civisdays22@gmail.com by 25 February 2022.
Selected students will be notified by Mid-March at the latest.
Assessment
Participants will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- An online test
- An oral presentation (per group of 2 students)
Before the CIVIS course: students will be given some topics on which they have to work per group of 2 in order to do an oral presentation of 10 minutes.
During the CIVIS course: students will be asked to give a short (ca. 5-10 minutes) oral presentation summarising the outcome of each afternoon session of group work.
After the CIVIS course: the students will be asked to write an essay (ca. 3000 words) of some given topics distributed and briefly discussed during the course. They will have to answer as well a multiple-choice questions Moodle test.
Each part will be evaluated by a committee of participating instructors.
The criteria for the evaluation are the following:
- Relevance of the topic of their own research
- Active participation in discussions and efficiency in practical sessions
- Impact and applicability of the group presentation topic
- Coherence and sustainability of the essay based on the acquired knowledge
