Physical mobility

The Physical component of the programme will take place between 8-12 July and include hands-on sessions on:

• bed-side teaching
• simulation
• case presentation and group discussions

During the physical mobility part of the BIP, the students will have the opportunity to visit some hospitals, including the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and use the simulation rooms. Thus, they will be able to put into practice, via the practical workshops and simulation trainings delivered in person, the theoretical knowledge acquired during the online component. 

The collaboration between UofG, UT, SUR and AMU gives the students the unique opportunity to compare and contrast a diversity of practices, to learn new skills and different ways of applying them and to consider different cultural viewpoints in tackling the same challenge.

At the end of the physical component of the programme, an assessment will take place. 

*Accommodation for the group during the summer programme (8-12 July 2024) has been reserved at our Kelvinhaugh Street residence (5 nights). It offers single standard rooms in five-bed flats, with shared bathroom facilities. The residence is self-catered, and each flat has a shared kitchen / lounge. The rate for the summer students is of £23.56 per room per night.  

Virtual part

The online component of the course is set to take place between 24 June - 5 July and will consist of recorded video lectures, suggested reading material and instructional videos as a preparation for the practical workshops and simulation training.

The Virtual component of this BIP is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge on respiratory physiology and basics of mechanical ventilation, shock, CPR, airway management, crisis resource management, invasive procedures and ethics. Teaching material is provided via the e-learning platform Moodle.

Students can work through the assigned teaching material at their individual pace. An online-multiple choice test at the end of the virtual part ensures a comparable level of knowledge for all the participants.

Requirements

This course is open to Bachelor's and Master's students at CIVIS member universities, with high interest in Medicine or Nursing. 

Participants need to have a good level of written and spoken English (B2 minimum), and should already have gathered first clinical experience - basic theoretical knowledge, in combination with hands-on training in the field of critical care.

In order to be accepted, the aplicants should:

• be studying for a degree in a relevant field (Medicine, Nursing)

• provide evidence of first clinical experience

• have a minimum B2 level of English

Assessment

The BIP will be assessed in form of a written multiple-choice test at the end of the course, covering the themes of both the virtual and the physical part.
