RivEr/Generation_LAB aims to build knowledge and action bridges between the seemingly competing systems of ecology, mobility, and economy, as they interact and influence each other in our everyday urban and peri-urban environments. This integrated approach proposes a methodology of intervention in consistency with the Sustainable Development Goals (UN, 2015), the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005), and the New European Bauhaus (2021), in order to establish new relationships between cities and the natural environment, fostering beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive public spaces.

  • Ecological restoration and modal shift encouraging actions for the rebalancing of public spaces
  • Creation of inclusive green-blue grids along riverfronts improving walkability and fruition
  • Enhancement of overall quality of life strengthening of eco-friendly social behaviours

A B2 certificate for English is required (see below).

Application process

  1. Book your preliminary English oral test with Sapienza Faculty by 20 February 2022. To book your test, send an e-mail to rivergeneration.aru@uniroma1.it.
  2. Upon successful English oral test, interested students should send a CV, a motivation letter and the certification of a B2 English level to rivergeneration.aru@uniroma1.it by 8 May 2022.

Assessment

The project proposes a comprehensive and inclusive approach to foster diversity in education, bringing together different disciplines and perspectives under a single analytical framework, which will explore commonalities of approaches to urban riverscape regeneration across different dimensions, and will critically examine the implications of interrelation between different sectors and/or domains.

Development of original case studies and critical analysis of urban regeneration policies, and relevant dynamics at the local level that are specific to each of the three riverscapes will be at the basis of the proposed cooperation initiative.

Therefore, the evaluation of the students' work in order to obtain credits will count on the attendance of at least 80% of online activities and active participation in all Rome Workshop activities.
