CIVIS brings together 11 leading universities across Europe. Located in 11 countries, CIVIS offers a rich multicultural and multilingual environment. Our goal is to create a truly European interuniversity space to facilitate collaboration across borders and pool the expertise, infrastructures, resources and innovative pedagogies of our universities to transform Higher Education in Europe and tackle today’s major societal challenges, locally and globally.
Connecting higher education between cities, societies and businesses
Radicate nel loro territorio urbano e regionale, le università membri del nostro CIVIS giocano un importante ruolo nello sviluppo delle loro città. Tutte contribuiscono attivamente alle dinamiche sociali, culturali ed economiche del loro ecosistema e promuovono i valori europei come l'inclusione, l'eguaglianza di genere, la non discriminazione e l'equità sociale.
In quanto Università Civica Europea, CIVIS svilupperà interazioni più ricche e co-creazioni di conoscenze ed abilità con i cittadini, le scuole, le imprese e con le associazioni sociali e culturali. Il nostro obiettivo è quello di rafforzare i legami tra l'istruzione superiore, le istituzioni pubbliche e il settore privato, per supportare la strategia europea per una crescita intelligente, sostenibile ed inclusiva.
A tal fine, il coinvolgimento delle nostre università nel loro ecosistema offrirà anche l'accesso alla formazione di qualità e creerà reali opporunità per tutti.
Realizzare la nostra terza missione: restituire alla società
To address the growing societal challenges, we use the knowledge from research and teaching of our 11 leading universities to fulfil our social responsibility towards the future generations for the benefit of our communities.
We established CIVIS Open Labs to strengthen the engagement between citizens, businesses, local and regional governments.
At the European level, we created education and research hubs centred around 5 themes, developing challenge-driven study and research programmes linked to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals:
- Climate, environment and energy
- Health
- Cities, territories and mobilities
- Digital and technological transformation
- Society, culture and heritage
Upskilling European citizens through lifelong learning opportunities
According to the World Economic Forum, at least 54% of all workers will need reskilling and upskilling by 2022. To tackle this issue, we work in synergy with companies, governments, societies and use the extensive knowledge and capacities of our universities to design in-person, blended and online education and training opportunities which are needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

CIVIS non sarà costruita in un giorno e noi abbiamo bisogno di te e del tuo aiuto per trasformare l'istruzione superiore in Europa e plasmare al meglio l'università di domani.
La nostra iniziativa di un'Università Europea è un progetto ambizioso e di vasta portata, inclusivo, partecipativo e aperto a tutti i principali stakeholder, tra cui i cittadini. In tal senso, intendiamo istituire degli organi decisionali a cui puoi prendere parte per aiutarci a valutare il nostro lavoro e condividere il tuo punto di vista su ciò che CIVIS dovrebbe diventare.
