Aix-Marseille Université, Sapienza Università di Roma, Université libre de Bruxelles and the University of Tübingen are launching the CIVIS Geochronology Network with a first seminar series and lab visits in Aix en Provence, France, at Aix-Marseille Université.  

This activity is open to students and academics from the organising universities. It will be free to attend the seminar series. CIVIS will support travelling and accommodation costs for up to 5 students per CIVIS member university.

You will gain access to an international network (academics, engineers and technicians, students….) to acquire unique expertise in geochronology.

Schedule of the course

The « summer school » will include 4 lectures by academics of the CIVIS Geochronology Network in the morning (9:00-12:30) and in the afternoon (14:00-17:00) you will visit the CEREGE lab facilities dedicated to geochronological studies.

Presentations will be delivered by instructors specialising in geochronology from Aix-Marseille Université, Sapienza Università di Roma, Université libre de Bruxelles and the University of Tübingen.

Main topics addressed

  • Geochronology techniques (principles and examples of applications)
  • Visit of lab facilities dealing with geochronology methods at CEREGE (Aix Marseille-Université)

Learning outcomes

Develop skills in geochronology including techniques such as radiocarbon dating, tephrochronology and thermochronology (theoretical knowledge and examples of applications).

Course assessment

An optional online quiz will be set up and available after the course.

Application process

Applications are open tu students and academics from Aix-Marseille Université, Sapienza Università di Roma, Université libre de Bruxelles and the University of Tübingen.

Please send your application (1-page motivation letter and CV in English) to the CGN representative at your university by 3 July. 

A total of 20 participants will be selected.
