This staff week aims to build institutional and pedagogical capacity for the strategic design and implementation of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), a flagship format underErasmus+ and a defining feature of the CIVIS European University Alliance.
As short, transnational, and hybrid learning experiences, BIPs represent a key tool in translating CIVIS’s mission into action— fostering mobility, interdisciplinary collaboration, and civic engagement in higher education.
Main topics addressed
Participants will engage with the core elements of high-quality BIP design, from curriculum development and teaching methodologies to international cooperation and digital integration. Special attention will be paid to how BIPs contribute to the broader modularization of higher education—a CIVIS and European priority—by acting as interoperable, stackable learning units that can be embedded into larger curricula or offered as standalone pathways for diverse learners.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the staff week, participants will be able to:
- understand the strategic function of BIPs within CIVIS as a key format supporting international collaboration, modularization of education, and interdisciplinary engagement;
- design a learner-centred, modular Blended Intensive Programme that integrates academic content, physical and virtual mobility, and innovative teaching approaches;
- recognize the value of BIPs in modular education pathways, contributing to flexible curriculum structures, lifelong learning, and academic interoperability across institutions;
- develop institutional scenarios for implementing and scaling BIPs, including considerations for quality assurance, mobility coordination, digital tools, assessment, and recognition within modular frameworks.
