Active involvement in research, particularly as part of a doctoral program, requires intense dedication to a specific field of knowledge. However, it also requires basic, open and interdisciplinary training on the act of research itself. What is research? What are the approaches and methodologies? What are its limitations and possibilities? Addressing precisely these issue is the aim of the transversal course Interdisciplinary approaches to scientific research, offered to all students enrolled in doctoral programmes at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM).
The course is now which in its fifth edition. Since 2021 UAM has also opened some of the sessions to the wider CIVIS community. The positive response has led UAM to organise a "CIVIS seminar" as part of the course, consisting of three independent sessions to be be conducted online.
