University of Bucharest

In its over 160 years of existence, the University of Bucharest has been ranked as one of the most prestigious universities in Romania and the South-East of Europe, earning a strong national and international reputation.

Today, the University of Bucharest has almost 32.000 students and 1.300 tenured academics. Generation after generation of students and teachers have succeeded to set our University amongst the landmark institutions of the Romanian society as a whole, through an ethical climate of trust.

Permanently positioned in the first third of the ranking made by Quacuarelly Symonds (QS), the University of Bucharest confirms, year after year, the continuous progress in key areas, considering the upward trend in recent years of the number of institutions included in the ranking. In the 2023 edition, the ranking highlights the performances of 1,597 universities. Thus, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, based on fundamental fields, and based on the results of their related subfields, the University of Bucharest appears in three of the five analyzed fields: Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management.

The University of Bucharest develops strong connections with numerous prestigious foreign universities and promotes a multilingual environment, as well as cultural diversity. UB supports and develops intercultural exchanges and mobilities for its students, through its international ERASMUS programme and the about 250 constant partnerships with over 53 countries, which have strongly and decidedly contributed to the enhancement of the educational standards.

The University of Bucharest shapes its educational process according the needs of the knowledge society, in which forming competences and abilities is utmost important. In order to apply efficient methods in this process, UB states publicly its objectives and strategies, debates them, and applies them encouraging the members of the academic community to contribute with their ideas and initiatives. 

The University of Bucharest acts upon the principles of non-discriminatory access and social inclusion of all students. Based on these democratic values, UB shapes its processes to be publicly involved, which legitimates UB in respect to society and aims to find knowledge-based solutions for the current social problems.

The University of Bucharest is strongly involved in finding optimal solutions to critical situations that might have an impact on students experience. UB develops programmes and partnerships of utter concern for students, regarding the business environment and is concerned to inform them continuously on career opportunities, supports interaction with the job market, through volunteering, internship programmes, experience exchange, sharing of good practices in different fields of activity.

The main endeavours of the University of Bucharest are aimed at obtaining the highest quality of educational services and research activities, adopting competitive standards and showing a continual concern to ensure quality, interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership and excellence of its students and  academics.
