The planned 5-days summer school will be focused on “Advances in pediatric health care” with the participation of experts from different but complementary fields from the 3 CIVIS Universities.
The topics will be general and transversal, from basic molecular knowledge to translational and clinical, so that students at different stages of their education may take advantage and attend the courses. We have identified key areas in the pediatric context that are progressing fast and where we have detected significant breakthroughs and currently suppose a challenge for the society: Obesity, nutrition and neonatology, and oncology.
Organisation
The school will be organized in morning lectures, seminars and round tables, following much of them the format of an “inverted classroom” where the students will have the opportunity to actively participate individually or working in small groups previously organized before the event. Different innovative teaching applications such as Socrative, Mentimeter, Kahoot or Miro will be used for the interaction with and among the students.
In the afternoon, the students will be split into small groups and rotate to attend
- a simulation laboratory class
- practices in minimally invasive methods in laboratory animals
- a molecular biology practice
- a workshop on critical analysis of the scientific literature.
These 4 activities will be focused on the 3 main areas of the school and will be complementary giving a wide broad initial knowledge of the issue.
The school will be closed with an opinion round table composed of local NGOs, policymakers, and entrepreneurs and a plenary session by a local outstanding researcher, Dr Lluis Montoliu, expert in gene editing.
