The Fellowship consists of two modules: 

  • An online course with weekly virtual sessions during the semester terms of the academic year 2021/22 on “Belonging. Recent Perspectives in Phenomenology”. The course provides general insight into recent developments and perspectives in phenomenology yet focusing on the topic of “belonging”.
    • Dates: October 2021-January 2022 and March-June 2022
    • Day and time: Thursdays 4-6pm (CEST/CET)
  • A one-week-workshop. The workshop is meant for collaboration and academic networking. It gives the Junior Fellows the opportunity to present and discuss their own research with CIVIS Senior Fellows as well as with Junior Fellow-Colleagues from European universities participating in the CIVIS Programme.
    • Date: 25-29 July 2022

The weekly online-course will be offered via Zoom and consists of 24 units, 12 sessions each semester, namely: October 2021-January 2022 and March-June 2022. It is scheduled every Thursday, 4-6 pm (CEST/CET). The workshop takes place 25-29 July 2022 at the University of Tübingen.

During morning sessions 26th-28th CIIS Senior Fellows will present their work while the Junior Fellows will present their research projects during afternoon sessions. Closing session and final discussion on July 29th.

Open to

Applications are welcome from philosophy, literature, cultural studies, sociology, political sciences and neighboring subjects. Applicants should be doctoral students at one of the CIVIS member Universities  (exceptionally, master students may be accepted).

  • Applicants must be willing to pursue the entire course program and attend the July-workshop with a presentation of their own research project. 
  • Applicants should send their CV, short outline of their research project (1.000 words) and a cover letter indicating their motivation to become Junior Fellow of the CIVIS to info@ciis.uni-tuebingen.de

Bogdan Minca

Bogdan Minca is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Bucharest. He got his PhD in 2006 in Philosophy and Classics at the Freiburg University, Germany, with a thesis on Heidegger’s interpretations of Aristotle, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fr.-W. von Herrmann. He currently teaches Phenomenology, Hermeneutics and Greek Philosophy at the Philosophy Department, University of Bucharest.

Panagiotis Thanassas

Panagiotis Thanassas is Associate Professor in “History of Philosophy” at the University of Athens (Department of History and Philosophy of Science). He Studied Law in Athens and Philosophy in Tübingen (PhD 1996). He has hold different positions in Philosophy at the Universities of Tübingen, Heidelberg, Munich and Cyprus, at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and at the Open Universities of Greece and Cyprus. His research and publications focus is on Greek Philosophy (Pre-Socratics, Plato, Aristotle), German Idealism (Hegel), Heidegger, and Philosophical Hermeneutics.

Niels Weidtmann

Niels Weidtmann is director of the CIIS at Tübingen University. After studying biology and philosophy at the University of Würzburg and at Duke University in Durham, N.C., USA, he received his doctorate with a thesis on intercultural philosophy. His research interests include Intercultural Philosophy, African Philosophy, Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, Structural Philosophy, Philosophical Anthropology and Philosophy of Science. Weidtmann currently is President of the Society for Intercultural Philosophy (GIP).

Eveline Cioflec

Eveline Cioflec is Senior Fellow at the CIIS, Tübingen University. She received her PhD at the University of Freiburg, Tübingen. She has held research positions at the New Europe College Bucharest, Bard College NY, University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, and taught at the Universities of Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu (both in Romania), Fort Hare in South Africa, Freiburg and Tübingen. In her research she focusses on Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, Intercultural Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy and Ethics.

Abbed Kanoor

Abbed Kanoor is Senior Fellow at the CIIS, Tübingen University. He received his doctorate from the Universities of Paris IV La Sorbonne and Bergische Universität Wuppertal. His main research interests are German and French Phenomenology, Intercultural Philosophy, Philosophical Anthropology and Philosophy of Culture.

Hora Zabarjadi-Sar

Hora Zabarjadi-Sar is Senior Fellow at the CIIS, Tübingen University. She received her doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2020. Her research focusses on Phenomenology and Hermeneutics while being interested particularly in the fields of Social and Political Philosophy, Education and questions of Multi- and Interculturality.
