The Summer School provides a theoretical, critical, and historical grounding about media and transmedia storytelling in order to make students understand the connection between media and identity construction. The goal is to broaden the scholarly assessment of storytelling in old and new media; in other words, the Summer School wants to deepen the impact that old and new media have on the constitution of identity in relation to ethics and morality in today's world.

Learning outcomes
The CIVIS course will give the students the chance to deepen their knowledge about media and transmedia storytelling in order to access further studies and to improve their knowledge analysis competences of media scripts, transmedia books, and different palimpsests.
In terms of professional competencies and skills, the Summer School offers students the opportunity to understand, reflect and act upon the old and new communication media. In this respect, professors will introduce the latest concepts, theories, principles, and fundamental methods of research in communication and media studies, in a globalized social exchange of information. This CIVIS course is a valuable preparation for careers in various aspects of the media and arts.

The CIVIS course will be running for 8 days, starting on 20 June 2022.
Requirements
This virtual CIVIS course is open to Bachelor's and Master's students at one of the 10 CIVIS member universities.
In order to understand the lessons, a good knowledge of English and a basic knowledge of Italian are required.
Application process
The application deadline is 30 April 2022.
Applicants should send an e-mail to ethicssummerschoolcivis.lcm@uniroma1.it with the following documents:
- A motivation letter (no more than 1 page) or a motivation short video (no more than 5 minutes)
- A copy of a valid ID or passport
- A copy of their academic qualification
Candidates with a qualification obtained abroad (outside EU) should also send:
- A copy of academic qualification translated into Italian or English legalized and accompanied by a Declaration of Value or the CIMEA Statement of comparability or a Diploma Supplement
- A transcript of records
Assessment
Students will be evaluated based on their participation in the lessons and related discussions, as well as based on the short project they will exhibit or record in the context of a flipped classroom.
The student will have 85 hours of individual workload. The first 60 hours will be spent by the students to read some books as well as to see video materials (in particular films and TV series, especially for the lessons concerning transmedia storytelling) that professors will indicate. The other 25 hours will take place after the synchronous lessons and will be devoted to the research needed for the final laboratory activities - flipped classroom).

General Eligibility Criteria for CIVIS Courses
Applicants need to be enrolled at their home university in order to be eligible for selection and participation. If uncertain about your status at your home university (part-time or exchange students etc) please check with your home university’s website or International Office.
Applicants who will be receiving other Erasmus funds for the duration of the course are not entitled to funding. Participation in the course may still be possible under “zero-grant” status, but applicants should contact their home university in order to confirm this.
