Laureates of the CIVIS3i Second Call for Postdoctoral Fellowships selected
The laureates of the CIVIS3i Second Call for Postdoctoral Fellowships are finally selected! After a difficult choice among the 34 pre-selected outstanding candidates and projects, 17 international researchers will begin their research projects at the four CIVIS3i partner Universities soon: five at Aix-Marseille Universitéin France, five at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain, four at Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, and three at Sapienza Università di Roma in Italy.
The 17 researchers were selected by independent, international evaluators from a pool of nearly 150 individuals. The laureates will come to the CIVIS3i Universities to carry out their research projects until January 2024. The second evaluation stage, an interview with the Selection Committee, was very challenging as there were 34 excellent shortlisted candidates for 17 fellowships. The evaluators assessed projects in three main categories – excellence, impact and feasibility. Each project also had to pass an ethical evaluation.
Funding was awarded to 9 interdisciplinary projects in Social Sciences and Humanities (Political Science; Archaeology and Chemistry, Classical Archaeology; Archaeology, Ancient DNA and Environmental Sciences; Phylosophy and Economics; Culture; Environmental Social Sciences), and 8 interdisciplinary projects in Exact Sciences (Neuroscience; Structural Biology; Immunology; Medicine; Mathematics; Physics; Physics and Chemistry; Physical Chemistry; Chemistry and Environmental Sciences).
The second cohort of CIVIS3i fellows are 11 men and 6 women comprising 10 nationalities, from Europe, the Americas and Western Asia.
