CIVIS Association is an international non-profit under Belgian law. Its creation was approved by Royal Decree in September 2024.
Its purpose as described in its statutes (art. 4) is: “To support and encourage the collaboration among the members of the European University Alliance CIVIS in the areas of higher education, scientific research and innovation, and service to the community3.
This support can take different forms: “Provide assistance and, where applicable, represent CIVIS Alliance in raising funds, applying or joining applicants to calls for proposals, administrative or logistical support, management of resources, advocacy, and facilitate communication and collaboration among the various projects undertaken jointly within the Alliance”.
Rectors and representatives of CIVIS Alliance formalised the creation of a new legal entity, CIVIS Association during the 2024 CIVIS Days at Lodron University of Salzburg. The appointment of Stefan Lang, PLUS Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Digitalisation, as the first Secretary General of CIVIS, was also announced during the ceremony.
