Four projects are meant to be carried out this year within Interact, a platform created in 2018 by the City of Lausanne and UNIL, which encourages, supports and funds collaborations through an annual thematic call for projects.

Four themes for academic and citizen collaboration

  • E-MERVEIL: co-learning safety in urban areas: By digitising a district of Lausanne in 3D, this project uses virtual reality to analyse how residents and professionals (police and public transport) perceive insecurity.

  • Facilitating the social and professional integration of migrants through access to knowledge: This project studies and designs the possibility of setting up a continuing education scheme for migrants. Through apprenticeships and training, it seeks to enhance the skills of migrants.

  • Cycling junctions: The aim here is to understand the impact of junction and roundabout configurations on cyclists' behaviour, as well as the profile of users adopting these measures to improve road safety.

  • Colonial Lausanne: a living history: is a digital cultural mediation project that will be integrated into the permanent exhibition of the Musée Historique Lausanne in the form of an interactive map. This collaboration will provide the public with a learning tool that retraces Lausanne's colonial past.

Life long learning

The call's theme covering the four projects above is lifelong learning. Its selection marks the concretisation of Lausanne's membership in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. The aim of this network is to promote the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in lifelong learning. The City joined this network following a joint application with UNIL.

Interact was created following the observation that collaboration between the two institutions was essentially based on interpersonal relations and did not benefit from systematic institutional support or enhancement.
