Marseille is gearing up to become the world capital of immunology Marseille is gearing up to become the world capital of immunology =================================================================== CIVIS Highlights 26 novembre 2024 The Marseille Immunology Biocluster (MIB), backed by a €96 million investment as part of a France 2030 10-year plan, aims to position France as a world leader in the field of immunology. Both a biocluster and a catalyst for innovation, [MIB](https://mibiocluster.com/) seeks to accelerate the emergence of new antibody-based diagnostic tools and therapies for the benefit of patients, and to push back the boundaries of innovation in healthcare. ![](/storage/files/dsc44391.jpg) © Eléa Ropiot / Aix Marseille Université Immunotherapy offers hope to millions of patients waiting for therapeutic solutions. Thus, the focus of the MIB is on designing innovative therapies, new diagnostic tools and medtech developments. How? By using the antibody tool, a fairly versatile product that can prevent a pathogenic virus from entering the body. Antibodies can target a cancer cell or immunomodulate autoimmune diseases. The idea is to design a sort of hub to create immunological medicinal tools around these concepts, with projects coming from all over France, from the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris to Toulouse or Brest. These therapeutic agents can be used in a number of ways to treat a broad spectrum of pathologies. ![](/storage/files/dsc4389.jpg) © Eléa Ropiot / Aix Marseille Université MIB’s strength lies in its cross-disciplinary approach. Today, it is made up of a network of healthcare professionals and experts, immunology researchers, as well as clinicians in four therapeutic areas: oncology, infectiology, autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases. Four decades of specialisation in immunology -------------------------------------------- Over the past 40 years, Marseille has succeeded in building public-private collaboration, an entrepreneurial biotechnology ecosystem specialised in immunology, with the creation in 1982 of “Immuno-tech” - Marseille's first biotech company using monoclonal antibodies for diagnostic antibodies. Since then, numerous other initiatives have been added, making Marseille a land of innovation in immunology that draws on all the region's strengths. **Find out more from the [original story](http://https://www.univ-amu.fr/fr/public/actualites/lancement-du-marseille-immunology-biocluster), in French.** ### Latest Highlights: *[ULB commits to digital responsibility](https://civis.eu/en/get-informed/news/ulb-commits-to-digital-responsibility)* *[SU researches revolutionise construction by turning tree bark into high-performance coating](https://civis.eu/en/get-informed/news/su-researches-revolutionise-construction-by-turning-tree-bark-into-high-performance-coating)* *[The University of Glasgow joins global slavery research project](https://civis.eu/en/get-informed/news/the-university-of-glasgow-joins-global-slavery-research-project)* *[WWF recognizes UNIL’s achievements towards sustainability](https://civis.eu/en/get-informed/news/wwf-recognizes-unil-s-achievements-towards-sustainability)* *[World-renowned ethologist and activist Dr. Jane Goodall gives inspiring lecture at PLUS](https://civis.eu/en/get-informed/news/dr-jane-goodall-inspires-at-the-plus)* Related news ------------ - [ ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/eloise-gennet-800x600.jpg?token=eeba5f64d6ca692c4cf84ac262c2e9a2)Éloïse Gennet: a Civizen building an integrated European university People 22 septembre 2026 ](https://civis.eu/fr/the-civis-newsroom/eloise-gennet-a-civizen-building-an-integrated-european-university) - [ ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/civis-3i-800x600.jpg?token=cdaaf78fd06e8e65fdfb5b50ef1a8355)CIVIS3i: Five Years Advancing Research Excellence Across CIVIS Alliance Alliance projects 28 juillet 2026 ](https://civis.eu/fr/the-civis-newsroom/civis3i-five-years-advancing-research-excellence-across-civis-alliance) - [ ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/post-it-risks-800x600.jpg?token=3f32ba7f3ab0220e88eeac41defdd8bf)Micro-certification – IA et travail: accompagner ses équipes faces au changement Learn 10 février 2026 ](https://civis.eu/fr/the-civis-newsroom/civis-micro-credentials-ai-and-work-supporting-teams-through-change) [Découvrez toutes nos aventures](https://civis.eu/fr/the-civis-newsroom) [ PLUS welcomes its new Rector and his team ](< https://civis.eu/fr/the-civis-newsroom/the-plus-salutes-its-new-rector-and-his-team >) [ ULB commits to digital responsibility ](< https://civis.eu/fr/the-civis-newsroom/ulb-commits-to-digital-responsibility >) ![CIVIS – Europe’s Civic University Alliance](https://civis.eu/build/assets/civis-CCpvK1nT.svg) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Europe’s Civic University Alliance ![Co-funded by the European Union](https://civis.eu/build/assets/co-funded-by-the-european-union-DSKLW1us.png)Views and opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
