CIVIS Student Survey

A Student-Led Consultation for a Stronger Alliance

The CIVIS Student Survey is a CIVIS Student-Led Project designed to create, disseminate, and analyse a comprehensive, cross-university questionnaire addressed to students across all CIVIS member universities. Conceived as a large-scale online consultation, the project produces two key outputs: a co-designed CIVIS questionnaire focused on mobility, inclusion, participation, accessibility, and sustainability; and a final, accessible report that combines quantitative findings with qualitative student comments. The report will be presented to CIVIS governance bodies and widely shared to strengthen student awareness and engagement throughout the Alliance.

Running over a full academic-year cycle, the initiative functions as both a research instrument and a participatory exercise in democratic engagement. Students from multiple CIVIS universities collaboratively design the survey tool, promote it across institutional channels, analyse the data with the support of relevant CIVIS units, and publish the results. More than a one-off consultation, the project is envisioned as a recurring feedback mechanism—an evolving barometer of the student experience and a structured pathway for amplifying the student voice within CIVIS.

Who We Are: The Student Team Behind the Survey

The project is led by a cross-university team of committed CIVIS students:

About the survey

All three team members have been actively involved in CIVIS for several years. Through participation in Alliance activities, they have gathered first-hand insights into the student experience. The CIVIS Student Survey emerges from this sustained engagement—and from a shared conviction that broader student participation is essential to the Alliance’s future.

Main Audience & Participation

The CIVIS Student Survey addresses all students across the Alliance—both those who have participated in CIVIS programmes and those who have never engaged with CIVIS activities.

Participation is straightforward and inclusive:

  • Any student may contribute by completing the online survey once it is launched.
  • The questionnaire will be widely promoted through CIVIS communication channels and university networks.

By explicitly inviting students who have not yet engaged in CIVIS, the project expands the scope of consultation beyond existing programme participants. It ensures that the Alliance listens not only to active contributors, but also to those whose voices have so far remained unheard.

Motivation & Social Impact

Surveys have long served as important instruments within CIVIS for gathering and analysing institutional data. However, this initiative introduces a distinct and innovative focus: understanding why many students do not participate in Alliance activities.

Beyond collecting feedback from programme participants, the CIVIS Student Survey seeks to identify structural barriers, communication gaps, accessibility challenges, and perceptions that may limit engagement. By addressing these questions directly, the project contributes to greater inclusivity, transparency, and responsiveness within CIVIS governance.

For students, participation offers more than the opportunity to answer questions. It provides:

  • A structured platform to influence CIVIS priorities.
  • Increased awareness of Alliance opportunities.
  • A tangible role in shaping future mobility schemes, participation models, and sustainability strategies.

In this sense, the project transforms consultation into co-creation—strengthening the democratic culture of the Alliance.

Practical Information

  • Project Duration: 1 September 2025– June 2026 (Academic Year Cycle)
    • Phase I – Questionnaire Development: 1 September – 30 JanuaryIncludes an in-person working meeting in Bucharest (December).
    • Phase II – Promotion & Dissemination: January – March (with possible extension to mid-April).
    • Phase III – Analysis & Reporting: April – June.
  • Format: Hybrid (primarily online collaboration, with one in-person meeting).
  • Language: English.
  • How to Participate: Students can participate by responding to the survey once officially launched via CIVIS channels.
