Eight of the University of Glasgow’s 11 subject areas have been ranked in the world’s top 100 in the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026, with Psychology and Medical & Health placing in the global top 50. Overall, nine subject areas improved from the last year results.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026 assess universities across 11 subject groups, using the same 18 performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings 2026. These indicators are organised under five pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook.
Glasgow’s rankings this year are:
- Arts & Humanities → 60
- Business & Economics → 76
- Computer Science → 126-150
- Education Studies → 77
- Engineering → 151-175
- Law → 63
- Life Sciences → 71
- Medical & Health → 48
- Physical Sciences → 126-150
- Psychology → 41
- Social Sciences → 75

These are very pleasing results that highlight both the strength and breadth of research and teaching at the University of Glasgow. The THE Rankings by Subject 2026 provide further evidence of our reputation as one of the world’s top 100 universities.
