CIVIS is News: joining the Rhythm of Revolution in Glasgow CIVIS is News: joining the Rhythm of Revolution in Glasgow ============================================================ Communication and Dissemination 31 de agosto de 2026 As Europe's international higher education community explores new ways of learning, collaborating and connecting across borders, CIVIS will bring its own contribution to the "Rhythm of Revolution" at the [European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference and Exhibition 2026, from 8-11 of September, in Glasgow](https://www.eaie.org/events/glasgow.html). Through four sessions and a dedicated booth, CIVIS will showcase the impact of European Universities alliances. Under the theme "CIVIS is News", the alliance will host a dedicated booth throughout the conference, offering a meeting point for colleagues, partners and stakeholders interested in the evolving landscape of European Universities alliances. The event will also provide an opportunity to reconnect with the [FOREU4ALL community of practice](https://www.foreu4all.eu/), strengthen existing collaborations and engage with the wider international higher education community. Showcasing impact in international education -------------------------------------------- ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/civis-comms-unit-jeanne-sadzot-eaie-2025-day2-097.jpg)photo: CIVIS Communication archiveAt EAIE 2026, CIVIS colleagues and partners will contribute to a series of sessions highlighting key dimensions of the alliance's work, from global engagement and joint education initiatives to innovative partnership models and the future of European degrees. ### Applying for a joint European degree label: from policy ambition to institutional practice As discussions around the future of European higher education continue to gather pace, CIVIS will also contribute to a dedicated workshop on the implementation of the Joint European Degree Label. Entitled *"Applying for a joint European degree label: A practical workshop for (alliances of) higher education institutions"*, the half-day session will provide participants with practical guidance on navigating the application process and preparing institutions for the label's rollout. Led by experts involved in developing the implementation guidelines, the workshop will combine policy insights with hands-on exercises and peer learning. Participants will explore the criteria associated with the label, assess institutional readiness, and work through practical case studies designed to support future applications. The session reflects the growing importance of joint programmes and shared quality assurance mechanisms in advancing deeper transnational cooperation across the European Higher Education Area. The workshop will be facilitated by Nadia Manzoni, **Alexandru Carțiș, Head of the CIVIS Education Unit**, and Yann-Mael Bideau (EC), alongside experts directly involved in the development and rollout of the European Degree Label framework. It will provide a unique opportunity for alliance representatives, higher education institutions and quality assurance specialists to engage with one of the most significant policy developments shaping the future of European higher education. 8 September 2026, 09:00 – 12:30 BST Room: Dochart 1, SEC Centre, Level 1 ![](https://civis.eu/storage/files/civis-comms-unit-jeanne-sadzot-eaie-2025-day3-066.jpg)photo: CIVIS Communication archiveThe joint European degree label will also be the topic of the *“At the starting line: a roadmap for rolling out the joint European degree label”* panel. **Prof.** **Romiță Iucu**, **co-chair of the thematic group dedicated to the European Degree**, along with Laura Howard (University of Cadiz, Spain) and Yann-Mael Bideau, from the European Commission, will present how alliances of HE institutions can interpret and apply the guidelines for the joint European degree label. Concrete examples and practical tips for joint programme design will be presented during the session. 10 September 2026, 14:00 - 15:00 BST Room: Clyde Auditorium, Armadillo, Ground floor ### African universities in a European University Alliance: the CIVIS case Through a poster presentation, CIVIS will share insights from its long-standing collaboration with African partner universities, which became Associate Members of the alliance in 2024. The session will explore the benefits and challenges of a comprehensive, institution-wide partnership model that encompasses education, research, civic engagement, governance, funding and capacity strengthening activities. CIVIS case study? A second poster presentation will focus on the strategic value of including partners from countries outside the Erasmus+ framework, using the experiences of the University of Lausanne and the University of Glasgow within CIVIS as a case study. The session will examine how such participation contributes to academic innovation, network expansion, policy development and opportunities for students, researchers and staff, while also addressing challenges linked to funding, mobility and regulatory frameworks. The poster will explore how Swiss and British institutions contribute to the resilience and diversity of European University alliances, acting as strategic partners and helping alliances navigate a rapidly evolving policy environment. The session will demonstrate how a large consortium of partners transformed an ambitious academic vision into reality within a demanding timeframe, drawing lessons from the governance model established to launch the programme and welcome its first students. Participants will gain practical insights into managing complex institutional collaboration and developing joint educational offers across borders.
