Convocatoria a equipos académicos para lanzar proyectos de promoción democrática Convocatoria a equipos académicos para lanzar proyectos de promoción democrática ================================================================================== Connect 1 de abril de 2026 The CIVIS European University Alliance launches its Spring 2026 Call for Interest for Civic Engagement Projects, inviting academic teams and their external partners to codesign meaningful, transnational initiatives that strengthen democratic participation and tackle urgent challenges facing cities and communities across Europe. The **call opens on 1 April 2026 and will remain active until 30 June 2026.** Democracy in Action ------------------- This year’s thematic focus, “Democracy in Action: Healthy, Equitable, Sustainable Cities & Communities” calls for transformative work at the intersection of democracy, health, social equity, environment and technology. Projects are expected to: - Tackle pressing urban and territorial challenges - Strengthen democratic engagement through participatory approaches - Empower underrepresented groups - Develop tools, methods or interventions with real-world application The theme understands cities as “living laboratories”, inviting academics and stakeholders to experiment with new democratic practices and design communitydriven solutions. ![Dr Claire Ramjan. By encouraging participatory methods, co-creation and community-led projects, the theme supports solutions that empower under-represented groups, strengthen social resilience and reinforce inclusive democratic practices Dr Claire Ramjan. Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education, University of Glasgow An Opportunity for Collaborative Civic Action --------------------------------------------- The call offers teams the chance to express interest and potentially secure support—including up to €10,000 in funding for a transnational workshop—to advance or kick-start civic engagement initiatives that bring together universities, communities, NGOs, public authorities, and other nonacademic partners. This support can only be confirmed upon validation of the CIVIS 2.1 Erasmus+ project and is subject to conditions [explained in the full call](https://civis-agora.widening.eu/call-for-interest-civic-engagement-projects). Projects selected under this scheme will enable partners to: - **Meet in person** in a CIVIS EU member country - **Exchange practices and methods** across disciplines and sectors - **Co-design or refine** their civic engagement project - **Plan sustainability** and future funding pathways This opportunity is open both to existing initiatives seeking to deepen their impact and emerging ones looking to structure their first steps. Who Is This Call For? --------------------- The call targets multidisciplinary teams from CIVIS member universities, working in close partnership with external actors such as municipalities, associations, companies, community organisations, health and environmental institutions, and NGOs. To be eligible, proposals must involve: - At least **three CIVIS universities**, including two EU-based members - At least **one non-academic stakeholder** actively co-constructing the project - A credible **participatory or co-creation approach** aligned with the theme “Democracy in Action: Healthy, Equitable, Sustainable Cities & Communities” - **Collaboration with CIVIS African associate member universities** is strongly encouraged, although EU rules do not allow funding of mobility costs for these partners. Key Requirements at a Glance ---------------------------- The **call opens on 1 April 2026 and will remain active until 30 June** **2026.** Applicants will be informed of the **results on 15 September 2026**, and all funded workshops may be organised during the **implementation window running from 2 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.** To be eligible, initiatives must bring together **at least three CIVIS universities,** including two from within the European Union, and involve **at least one non-academic stakeholder** as an active coconstructor of the project. Proposals should clearly outline **how civic engagement will be embedded** in the initiative, demonstrating a commitment to participatory, collaborative or cocreated approaches that respond to shared societal challenges. Applicants must also show methodological robustness and alignment with CIVIS objectives, presenting a realistic framework. Where possible, proposals should indicate potential links with CIVIS educational formats—such as challengebased modules, BIPs, joint courses or microprogrammes—while emerging initiatives may simply outline future avenues for integration. ### Learn more and apply!
