Learning memories, building peace ======================================================== *Stories of Migrants* aims to document and preserve the memories of people who have migrated to Europe over the last 35 years. Through participatory research and collaborative workshops, the project collects migrants’ stories, interviews, and personal objects to create both a digital and physical archive of migrant memory. The initiative involves universities, schools, NGOs, migrant associations, cultural institutions, and civil society in reflecting on migration as a fundamental part of European history and identity. Structured around three key stages of migration—departure, journey, and arrival—the project promotes dialogue, cultural exchange, and critical reflection on migration narratives. Public exhibitions, storytelling events, and educational workshops will disseminate the collected materials and encourage community engagement. By preserving migrants’ experiences and fostering inclusive heritage practices, the project contributes to building a more inclusive understanding of European cultural identity and promotes social cohesion and intercultural dialogue. Main Beneficiaries & Social Impact --------------------------------------- ### Main Beneficiaries The project involves **university students, researchers, migrant communities, NGOs, schools, cultural institutions, and the general public** in several European and Mediterranean countries. Participation takes place through **collaborative workshops, interviews with migrants, storytelling activities, exhibitions, and public events**. Migrants actively contribute by sharing personal stories, memories, and objects related to their migration experience. Universities, civil society organisations, media professionals, and religious communities collaborate in research, educational activities, and dissemination initiatives. ### Social Impact The project promotes **awareness of migration as a central component of European history and identity**, countering simplified or negative narratives about migration. By collecting and sharing migrants’ stories, the initiative contributes to **social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and recognition of migrants as active contributors to European cultural heritage**. The creation of **digital and physical archives of migrant memory** supports long-term preservation of migration experiences and encourages public debate on migration, diversity, and democratic coexistence Core Methodology ------------------ Participatory research based on **story collection, interviews, and collaborative workshops** involving migrants, students, and civil society actors. Liliana Dumitrache Academic Liliana Dumitrache *is* a university professor based in Bucharest, Romania. Soufiane Chaari Academic He is a university lecturer in Italian Literature at Université de Sfax, holding the academic rank of *Maitre Assistant*. Their work focuses on teaching, research, and scholarship in Italian literary studies, contributing to cross-cultural education and academic exchange in the humanities. It is a community of practice that brings together diverse perspectives to collect testimonies, create participatory audio-visual narratives, and develop educational materials that bring the lived experience of migration into schools. [Arci Gay Roma](https://arcigayroma.it/) Stakeholders Arcigay Roma is an LGBTQIA+ organization committed to promoting equality, inclusion, and the rights of LGBTQIA+ people in Rome and beyond. Through cultural initiatives, community support, advocacy, and educational projects, it works to create safer spaces, combat discrimination, and foster dialogue and awareness in society. [Baobab Experience](https://www.baobabexperience.org/) Stakeholders Baobab Experience is a grassroots volunteer organization in Rome that provides humanitarian support to migrants and refugees in transit.
