Intergenerational Learning Communities

The CIVIS Open Lab “Intergenerational Learning Communities” fosters interaction and collaboration between people of different ages through structured activities. The project addresses age-related stereotypes and promotes mutual understanding, empathy, and civic engagement. It is a collaboration between three CIVIS universities (NKUA, PLUS, UAM) and partner NGOs (Mission ANTHROPOS, primary and public secondary schools).

Activities include pilot programs in movement, music, and health literacy, co-learning classrooms, intergenerational public events, and webinars during Global Intergenerational Week. The Open Lab provides step-by-step guidance for designing, implementing, and evaluating intergenerational programs, while creating tools and resources to support academics, practitioners, and community stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to increase social participation, strengthen intergenerational ties, and generate sustainable, inclusive practices that improve quality of life across communities.
