EUROTALES is an experimental Museum of the Voices of Europe based at Sapienza Università di Roma that explores and documents Europe’s linguistic heritage, involving also the University of Bucharest, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, University of Sfax, and Université Hassan II de Casablanca. The project brings together students, researchers, and local communities to collect linguistic biographies, oral traditions, and traces of languages embedded in everyday life, such as place names, inscriptions, and dialects.
Through participatory research, workshops, and fieldwork across several European and Mediterranean regions, participants contribute data that feed into a digital and physical “diffuse museum” dedicated to Europe’s multilingual cultures.
The project highlights both widely spoken and lesser-used languages, giving visibility to linguistic diversity often overlooked in public discourse. By combining community engagement, co-creation, and public exhibitions, EUROTALES promotes awareness of multilingual heritage, strengthens intercultural dialogue, and encourages citizens to actively participate in recognizing and preserving the linguistic diversity that shapes European cultural identities.
