How should the burdens of reducing and mitigating climate change be distributed among countries? What moral limits are there on warfare? What is the philosophical foundation of human rights and what obligations do these impose on the international community? And is global democracy a possible and desirable solution to the global challenges we now face?

Requirements
All CIVIS students at Bachelor level are welcome to apply. There are some scholarships available for CIVIS students to travel to Stockholm, Sweden. If you have any questions please contact the organiser of the course: asa.burman@philosophy.su.se.

Selected students will be notified by 22 April 2022.
Course assessment
Students will be assessed based on a 1 take-home exam (essay).

Isaac Taylor
I am an associate senior lecturer in practical philosophy. I joined the Department in 2020, having previously held postdoctoral positions at Goethe University Frankfurt and the University of Colorado Boulder. Before moving to Stockholm, I was a Research Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute in London, where I worked with UK public sector organisations in investigating the ethical issues surrounding emerging military technologies. I hold a DPhil in Political Theory from the University of Oxford.
My research is primarily in moral and political philosophy, with a focus on global justice and new technologies. My current work seeks to answer the question of how states can pursue security both effectively and ethically, especially at a time when governments are increasingly turning to AI systems and private companies to protect their citizens.
Torbjörn Tännsjö
Torbjörn Tännsjö is Kristian Claëson Professor of Practical Philosophy at Stockholm University since 2002 and director at Stockholm University of Stockholm Centre for Health Care Ethics, a cooperation between Stockholm University (SU), Karolinska Institute (KI) and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). Since 2007 he is also an Affiliated Professor of Medical Ethics at Karolinska Institutet. He is the author of the coursebook Global Democracy.
Katharine Jenkins
I am a philosopher at the University of Glasgow, specializing in social philosophy. I joined the department as a Lecturer in July 2020. Before that, I was an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham and a Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge. I hold a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Sheffield, and a BA and MPhil in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
My research is primarily in social philosophy, especially the ontology of social categories. I'm interested in how social categories such as races and genders exist, and how these categories are bound up with systematic injustices. I'm also interested in feminist philosophy and critical philosophy of race more broadly, in the philosophy of sex and sexuality, and in social epistemology. Topics I have written about include rape myths, pornography, and gender identity.
Glaucia Peres Da Silva
I am a sociologist, working in the implementation of the transdisciplinary program "Global Awareness" at the University of Tübingen. Research interests: globalization, transnational processes, economic sociology, cultural sociology, sociology of the arts, Popular Music Studies, Cultural Studies, music business research.
