Voices of differences: Ethnic and linguistic minorities in the Life of the city of Bucharest (2025) Voices of differences: Ethnic and linguistic minorities in the Life of the city of Bucharest (2025) ===================================================================================================== - Innovative Pedagogies - Global partnerships - Inclusion & Diversity - Civic engagement - Joint learning - Education - Open Labs - Training materials - Course, module or learning opportunity - Students - Academics - Researchers - Civil society This presentation explores ethnic and linguistic diversity, cultural heritage and minority identities in Romania and the wider Balkan region. Developed in the framework of Building Bridges: Culture, Community and Inclusion in Bucharest, it examines the historical experiences, cultural traditions and contemporary realities of different communities, encouraging reflection on diversity, identity, inclusion and intercultural dialogue. This is an educational resource focusing on ethnic and linguistic minorities and their contribution to the cultural and social life of Romania and the wider Balkan region. Under the theme [**“Voices of Difference: Ethnic and Linguistic Minorities in the Life of the City**](https://civis.eu/storage/files/building-bridges-culture-community-and-inclusion-in-bucharest-file-n1.pdf)**,”** the presentation introduces concepts of linguistic and ethnic identity and explores the historical development and experiences of communities including **Jews, Armenians and Aromanians (Macedo-Romanians)**. Through historical information, demographic data, maps, archival material, photographs and examples of cultural traditions, it examines migration, multilingualism, cultural identity, integration and minority rights. Particular attention is given to the ways minority communities have preserved their languages, religions and customs while participating in the civic, cultural and professional life of their societies. The presentation also uses examples of **traditional music, dance, ritual practices and cultural heritage from Romania and other Balkan countries**, highlighting connections across communities and borders and encouraging a broader understanding of Europe's cultural diversity.
