This report presents public policy recommendations developed through the CIVIS Intergenerational Communities Open Lab. It provides guidance for creating, sustaining and evaluating intergenerational spaces that promote dialogue, mutual learning, social cohesion and civic participation.

This report translates the findings of the CIVIS project “Intergenerational Communities” into evidence-informed recommendations for designing and sustaining intergenerational initiatives. It conceptualises intergenerational spaces as local democratic infrastructures that can strengthen social cohesion, mutual recognition and deliberative capacity. Recommendations emphasise reciprocity between generations, meaningful dialogue around public issues, skilled facilitation, institutional continuity and integration into local participation, education, ecological transition, migration and care policies.

Particular attention is given to evaluation through quantitative and qualitative methods. Rather than replacing structural public policies, intergenerational initiatives should complement them by strengthening their relational, deliberative and community dimensions while remaining sensitive to territorial and social contexts.
