As one of the first 17 alliances launched under the European Universities Initiative in 2019, CIVIS carries a particular responsibility: to show what durable, mission-driven university cooperation looks beyond the funding cycles. This report sets out CIVIS’ answer: a Model and Sustainability Strategy built to guide the Alliance, in accordance with the Mission and Vision of the Rectors’ for the next ten years.
To outline a model for a sustainable Alliance, the Deliverable starts with a SWOT analysis conducted after six years of experience, feeding into a shared vision, mission and set of values agreed across all 11 Full Member universities. From there, the report sets out a strategic model built around the three pillars of the Rector’s Mission Statement CIVIS 2035: an even more effective and inclusive collaborative space, an agent for democracy, prosperity and wellbeing, and a transformative force within member institutions.
Sustainability isn't left abstract: the report describes how CIVIS is cementing itself for the long term through in-kind contributions, an indefinite Alliance Agreement signed by every member university, and the creation of a dedicated legal entity, the CIVIS Association, alongside continued efforts to extend CIVIS's collaborative model to partner institutions in Africa and through collaborations that work outside the Erasmus+ framework.
