Presentation
The University of Salzburg is the largest educational institution in the Salzburg region of Austria, with around 17,000 students and almost 3,000 employees working in research, teaching, and administration. As an integral part of the region’s cultural and economic life, the University of Salzburg serves as a meeting point for teachers and students, for science and society. Founded in 1622, the higher education institution was re-established in 1962 and has since developed into a modern and vibrant university.

Teaching
The University of Salzburg offers a wide range of educational opportunities. Students can choose from over 30 degree programmes spanning Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral studies. Within their programme, they can select specific majors or enrich their studies with interdisciplinary courses. The university also provides numerous continuing education programmes, some of which are offered in cooperation with external educational institutions.

Research at the highest level
Researchers at the University of Salzburg achieve impressive results in both fundamental and applied research, reflected in the growing number of publications and funded projects. Research is conducted within the university’s academic departments, strategic focus areas and centres, interuniversity institutions, and the School of Education. The University of Salzburg places particular emphasis on researchled teaching, which benefits all students and especially those preparing for academic careers. This approach provides attractive, researchanchored learning opportunities that help students develop both subject expertise and the competencies needed for their future professional paths.

Goals
The University of Salzburg is committed to providing academics with excellent conditions for their research, along with the resources and networking opportunities needed to achieve international visibility. The university also aims to offer all staff members opportunities for further qualification and to involve them in institutional development through transparent processes. While firmly rooted in the city and region of Salzburg as its leading educational and research institution, the university is equally committed to meeting the challenges of internationalisation. Finally, the University of Salzburg recognises its responsibility in addressing pressing regional and global challenges across society, the economy, and culture.
