We are organizing a 5-day scientific networking event to promote collaboration among biomedical researchers from CIVIS universities and African partners. The event features research lectures, poster presentations, and workshops aimed at both PhD students and professors. For PhD students, the focus is on building international networks, improving communication skills, and gaining new knowledge. Professors will benefit from networking opportunities, guidance on funding applications, and workshops on creating new educational programs. The multidisciplinary event covers various biomedical research topics and aims to bring together professors from nine institutions across Europe and Africa, along with PhD students.

Programme

When: November 11-15, 2024

Where: La Cristalera, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

In-site accommodation is available.

The 5-day scientific networking event (November 11-14 with the 15th optional for UAM campus installations visit and activities) featuring research lectures by attending scientists, poster presentations by PhD students, and collaboration-oriented workshops. Our objective is to establish a network of biomedical researchers, both senior (professors) and junior (PhD students), fostering collaboration and advancing the academic and research objectives of the CIVIS university community, including African partners. Simultaneously, we aim to contribute to the professional development of both PhD students and professors in important research and academic topics.

For PhD students, this initiative aims to:

  1. Foster and establish international research networks within CIVIS among PhD students focusing on similar topics.
  2. Enhance PhD students’ communication skills to disseminate and defend research progress effectively.
  3. Acquire additional techniques, approaches, concepts, and ideas through formative lectures and debates with other PhD students and researchers.

For researchers/professors, we aim to:

  1. Foster and establish international research networks among researchers focusing on similar topics through research talks and networking sessions.
  2. Facilitate the establishment of research consortia for funding applications through a relevant workshop on EU projects and a UAM campus visit.
  3. Facilitate the creation of new educational opportunities within CIVIS, starting with a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) and potentially leading to a future PhD program, through a workshop on BIP organization.

The event focuses on multidisciplinary Biomedical Research, encompassing selected scientific themes in both basic and translational research. Topics include:

  • Bioimaging
  • Biomarker research
  • Aging and geriatric medicine
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Chronic inflammatory diseases
  • Biochemistry and genetics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Artificial Intelligence

We also plan to explore strategic research frameworks within these areas.

We already have confirmation of attendance by professors from:

  • Aix-Marseille Université (France)
  • National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece)
  • Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium)
  • Université de Sfax (Tunisia)
  • University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa)
  • Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain)
  • National Research Council (CSIC, Spain)
  • Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain)

Additionally, we aim to attract PhD students from these universities to attend the event. Certificates of attendance will be issued by the organizers for the learning/training activities received by the students.

To attend, registration is necessary.

Please note that there is no registration fee to attend this scientific event. Costs for accommodation, meals, and coffee breaks will be incurred, payable to the Cristalera administration-habilitated web page, unrelated to the event’s organization. Overnight participants have the convenience of an all-inclusive package, 111€/night for the professors (single rooms), and 92€/night for PhD students in shared rooms.

Please register early to secure your spot as attendance will be granted based on registration order.
