 This report documents how CIVIS has built shared doctoral education, ranging from cotutelles, multiple and joint doctoral programmes or networks, to new opportunities for training and career development for early-stage researchers.

By the end of the CIVIS2 Erasmus+ project, the Alliance counts **8 joint doctoral programmes or networks** in place or under active development, spanning arts and humanities, social sciences, health and life sciences across several countries in Europe and Africa.

Some are already well advanced: **CIVIS MedSysBio** has entered final accreditation with its first cohort expected in October 2026, the [**Transitive Modernities**](https://transitmod.hypotheses.org/civis-ph-d-programme "https://transitmod.hypotheses.org/civis-ph-d-programme") joint doctorate has completed its design phase for delivery in 2027-2028, and the [**Museum University Forum**](https://civis.eu/de/discover-civis-alliance/our-work/CIVIS-Museum-University-Forum "https://civis.eu/en/discover-civis-alliance/our-work/CIVIS-Museum-University-Forum") is training doctoral candidates directly inside partner museums' collections. Cotutelle agreements have also kept growing steadily, also thanks to the CIVIS cotutelle template.

This momentum has already translated into competitive European funding, including the MSCA Doctoral Network [**SpaXio**](https://www.spaxio.eu/ "https://www.spaxio.eu/"), which grew directly out of CIVIS MedSysBio. Alongside these programmes, CIVIS now offers dedicated transversal-competence training for doctoral candidates and early-stage researchers, including a module on Artificial Intelligence and Research, and, since January 2026, a new[ Post-Doc/Doc job space ](https://civis-agora.widening.eu/post-doc-opportunities "https://civis-agora.widening.eu/post-doc-opportunities")on the CIVIS Digital Campus.
