 We, the member institutions of CIVIS – A European Civic University Alliance and six leading universities in Africa, share the widespread assessment of the EUI as the most significant political project currently underway in European HE and research.

CIVIS sees enormous potential for European Universities alliances to reach out to partners beyond Europe, and especially to bring African and European universities into new, productive relationships – for the benefit of the institutions involved, the HE sectors of our home continents as well as our societies at large.

This position paper lays out the areas where the EUAs to can unlock the potential of European-African collaboration.

- ### IMAGINING HOMELAND: PALMYRA'S (IN)TANGIBLE HERITAGE AND THE VOICES OF DISPLACEMENT

    This volume is a monograph documenting the virtual reconstruction projects of the Temple of Baalshamin, one of the most significant forms of tangible heritage belonging to the Syrian community, destroyed as a result of terrorist attacks. Through a series of workshops with Syrian communities—including refugees, displaced persons, and individuals who have experienced either forced or voluntary migration—the virtual reconstruction is presented as a process that supports social inclusion and the reconstruction of cultural identity.
